Kazakhstan Considers its Participation in Silk Road Economic Belt Project

Silk Road Economic Belt project was discussed during the meeting between Kazakh Foreign Minister Kairat Sarybay and Chinese ambassador to Kazakhstan Le Yucheng in Astana, Kazakh Foreign Ministry said on Jan.10.

"During the meeting the parties exchanged views on the whole spectrum of bilateral cooperation and especially focused on Silk Road Economic Belt project," Kazakh Foreign Ministry said.
Recall, this was initiated by Chinese President Xi Jinping during his state visit to Kazakhstan in September 2013 and was supported by Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev.

"During the meeting Kairat Sarybay stressed that Kazakhstan is ready to actively participate in consideration of the implementation ways of this large-scale project which will cover the aspects of cooperation such as economy, trade, investments, culture and is aimed at bringing the interregional relations to a qualitatively new level," Kazakh Foreign Ministry said.

Kazakh diplomat stressed that the idea of implementation of Silk Road Economic Belt project is generally concordant with Kazakhstan - New Silk Road project previously initiated by President Nursultan Nazarbayev and seeks to turn Kazakhstan into a trade, logistics and business hub in Central Asia, as well as with Astana's intention to strengthen the Asian vector of international cooperation.
