A direct flight route Lanzhou-Hong Kong was officially launched on June 10. Flights on the route will operate every Wednesday by HK Express - Hong Kong's first and only low-cost carrier – with the use of an Airbus A320.

The flight departs from Hong Kong at 1:45 pm and arrives in Lanzhou at 4:50 pm; the return flight leaves Lanzhou at 5:35 pm and terminates in Hong Kong at 8:50 pm.

"The newly launched Lanzhou-Hong Kong flight is expected to enhance the trade, culture and tourism communication between West China and Hong Kong," said Yang Rubiao, the vice-president of the Gansu Provincial Civil Airport Group Company at a news conference. Yang also mentioned that the airline will promote a 20 percent discount round-trip travel ticket at the preliminary stage of voyage.

The Gansu Provincial Civil Airport Group Company has opened several new domestic and international routes since 2015, including flights of Lanzhou-Shanghai-Osaka, Beijing-Dunhuang-Kanas (located in Xinjiang) and new air routes to 10 foreign cities, such as Dubai, Singapore, Seoul and Bangkok.

According to an official statement, the company will open Hong Kong-Dunhuang flight on June 29 and from Nagoya-Dunhuang at the beginning of July.
