Xinjiang Volkswagen to Sell Products in Central Asia

SAIC Volkswagen's Xinjiang facility is likely to sell products to Central Asia next year.

The company recently got authorization from Volkswagen Deutschland for the move, said Fu Xuejun, the Xinjiang company's general manager.

At the moment, senior officials at SAIC Volkswagen in Shanghai are working on the export procedure, which is expected to be completed this year, Fu added.

Next year, the Xinjiang company would open a SUV line, with an annual capacity of 50,000 vehicles.

At the moment, the company's products are sold in such areas as Northwest China's Gansu and Qinghai provinces and Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, and Southwest China's Tibet autonomous region.

The company was established in 2012 as a response to the Central Government's call to develop the west.

"Under the Belt and Road initiative, we believe there would be an economic explosion here sooner or later," Fu said.

So far, the company has created job opportunities for more than 680 employees from Xinjiang.

Anwar Tursunniyaz is responsible for assembling parts onto the engine at the plant.

He works eight hours a day and can finish 80 automobiles a day.

He joined the plant right after he graduated from Xinjiang Vocational and Technical College of Communications.

"My living conditions have improved a lot ever since I started working here four year ago," Tursunniyaz said.
