Herculean Efforts on Display at Gansu Dibu Event

The 2015 Hercules Chinese Open kicked off in Dibu county in Northwest China's Gansu province on July 10. Sixteen world-class strong men from four countries participated in the event.

The open tournament consisted of seven individual events such as deadlifting and pushing a car.

This year's open is the highest level 'Hercules' match that Gansu has held to date. It attracted worldwide attention with contestants from China, the United States, Russia and Poland, all of whom contested for the championship.

Aside from the match, various activities – such as a tourism festival - were held simultaneously.

According to the Party chief of Dibu county, the region held the events with the aim of publicizing Dibu county and introducing more international competitions to the region.

"Various activities also arouse locals' enthusiasm to work hard for promoting local image," said a senior official from Dibu government.

The Dibu government has sped up efforts to develop its tourism and make it a national-level demonstration county of ecological civilization. Dibu county is located in the Gannan Tibetan autonomous prefecture and is known locally as the "Kingdom of Plants" and "Eden in East" due to its abundant nature resources and astonishing grassland landscape.

The 2015 Hercules Chinese Open was jointly held by the Gannan Tibetan autonomous prefecture government, Dibu county government and Gansu Sports Administration.
